Chefchaouen - The Blue City - Day 2

The day started with waking up at a relaxed pace. We walked around a different area of the Medina to find some new places to take pictures (we took soooo many pictures).

Our hostel did not serve breakfast so we really needed to get some food. We went to the small "convenience store/grocery" that we went to the night before to get a dessert. The guy there was really nice. We got a couple pastries for 9 dirhams (under a dollar haha). We ate them by the market square area.

After our little breakfast, we walked along another street and took even more pictures. As I said in the blog yesterday, literally every single corner and street was a photo op. I've been to a number of places and this place definitely stuck out. In particular, we found a tree that was blooming with red flowers against a blue house. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my entire life. Literally took my breath away. Lacey laughed at me but it was awesome! I also got my picture taken with a parrot and it bit my face so that was funny!

The following are a bunch of pictures from our morning walking around.

Once Noon hit, we left the medina (sadly) and walked down to the exit. We took a taxi down to the bus station and hung out there until our bus came. Sadly, we ate cookies and orange juice for lunch.
This trip, we took a CTM bus which is supposed to be an express bus (no local stops). There were a few different groups of Australians and 2 couples from Italy on the bus, otherwise all Moroccans. There was some arguing before the bus took off because people weren't in their assigned seats (specifically the Australian couple behind us) so that was interesting.

The bus ride was mostly uneventful. The beginning of the bus ride was down from the mountains and the bus driver drove very fast and the roads were very curvy. Lacey got pretty motion sick. The bus ride was just like before, skinny roads, super slow trucks, and kind of hair-raising passing of cars. The Australian guy behind us was kind of funny and I sort of talked to him but I didn't talk too much in case he wanted to be left alone.
Sad Lunch

The bus stopped at a road side "gas station" sort of thing. There was a small shop where you could buy raw meat and then they would grill it for you at another place. Lacey and I didn't do that but we really wished we would have. It smelled so good. Instead, like dummies, we bought some ketchup pringles even though we don't like ketchup that much. They were nasty and we were a little depressed without our grilled meat lol. Adding to the annoyance, the bus waited at this stop for like 45 minutes.

We thought the CTM bus would bring us to the bus station by the medina so we could walk back to our hostel right away. Instead, the bus drove through the traffic of the new city area and dropped us there. We had to take a 20 minute taxi ride to the medina. All in all, the express bus was not faster but it is what it is.

Our bus drove behind this truck with guys playing music. SOOO FUNNY!

We went back to Dar Jannat for 1 night and Moussa greeted us with a smile like always (he's seriously great). We went back to Cinema Cafe and finally actually ate something. Lacey got another pizza and I got a marinated chicken sandwich. We shared an oreo milkshake. Very Moroccan meal hahaha. It tasted fine and we felt better after eating.

Our "home away from home" in Fes

To end the day, we went back to the hostel and showered and cleaned up and just got ready for the next part of our trip. Tomorrow we fly to Lisbon, Portugal!
