A Night To Remember

We already wrote a post about Friday during the day. You can see that post linked here. There are a number of reasons why I wanted to split the posts into a day and night one. If you’ve seen our Instagram or Facebook pages, you’ll probably guess why haha. Also, we saw and did SO MUCH on Friday during the day, I didn’t want to make that post too long.

When we last left off, we had taken a little rest at our Airbnb after a crazy day. While Lacey slept, I spent a bunch of time looking for a cheap but good French bistro or restaurant. We could have just eaten a falafel sandwich again or something but we knew we needed to have a true restaurant experience at some point. So I found a great website that listed 46 different cheap and easy food places in Paris. We ended up using this list a few different times later on as well.

We got a little more dressed up than we normally do and then headed out. We had to take the metro to the Louvre and then walk just a few minutes North to get to the restaurant. It was called Bistrot Victoires. We poked our heads in and gave the host our name. While we waited, we examined the French only menu outside the restaurant and tried to figure out what everything was and what we were going to order. Some quick google searching made it fairly easy. It only took about 10 minutes for us to get a table.

The restaurant was very cozy inside and very busy. To get as many people in as possible, there was very little room between tables. They actually had to completely pull the table out for Lacey to get in to the back bench. Then the table was slid back in and I sat on a chair on the opposite side. Our waiter was incredibly nice and spoke English very well. We got English menus (thankfully). I ordered the duck confit and Lacey ordered Steak-Frites. I’ve never had duck confit before but I know it’s a very French meal so I was excited. Steak-Frites is a super popular meal in Paris and it is what it says.

We also ordered some drinks while we waited for our food. I got a craft beer called ??? and Lacey got an interesting drink that was like a mix of a wine and a liquor. Hard to explain. Our food came surprisingly fast considering how busy the restaurant was. My duck confit was served with fried potatoes and salad and Lacey had french fries with her steak. Holy smokes the food was fantastic. Lacey’s steak was crusty on the outside and soft in the middle. My duck confit basically melted in my mouth in the best way possible. The potatoes were great too. Just a wonderful meal. We splurged a little and got creme brulee too. Really tasty food!!!

We had talked about going to the Eiffel Tower to see it at night but that was quite a ways away from where we were at. So we walked to the Louvre to see the glass pyramids all lit up.

We did one circle of the pyramids and on the second asked someone to take a picture of us. I proceeded to get down on one knee and ask Lacey a very important question. The woman taking the picture was at first a little annoyed we asked but then was very happy after I asked haha. It was a really pretty moment in a really pretty city with a really pretty woman and yeah.

Lacey knew the whole night that I was going to pop the question (I mean we were in Paris sooooo). Before we left for dinner, I had stored the ring in my pocket and she could see me feeling something in my pocket the ENTIRE night. In my defense, I was nervous about the whole thing and nervous about something happening to the ring. But yeah, I’m not good at not showing my emotions.

The ring has marquise diamonds on the band and an oval center diamond. I got it from ShaneCo. It hasn’t been fun keeping it a secret for a few months but it was worth it to do it in Paris.

We made our way back to the apartment and started spreading the news. By about 2:30am Paris time, we had talked to or emailed most people and were ready for bed.

This was a very special day and night that we’ll remember for a looooong time.
