More Sickness and Introspection from Jeremy
Friday night was not good for Lacey. Because of her cold, she only got an hour or two of sleep. She tried to power through and we got the breakfast buffet from our hotel. It was one of the weirdest buffets I've ever seen. They had normal Western staples like pancakes and waffles and toast. Mixed in were normal Southeastern Asia staples like stir-fry chicken and spicy soup. Also, the bacon and sausage were made of chicken and looked odd. After finally regaining my appetite the night before, I scarfed down a bunch of the Western stuff (helloooo carbs haha). The view during breakfast was to die for, as it always is at Railay.
We wandered around to a bunch of different little stores trying to find some decongestant for Lacey. We're dumb and checked our hotel store last. Of course, that store was the only one to have it.
After getting the medicine she needed, Lacey rested up. I watched "Star Trek Discovery" on Netflix (nerd alert) and it's really good. With some actual decent sleep under her belt, we headed out around noon to Phranang Beach. It's another beach within walking distance of Railay. Along the walk, we saw some monkeys which were very cute. The beach is stunning when it isn't completely and utterly over-run by tourists. Both of us were turned off by the mass of people and boats everywhere. We also stopped by "The Penis Cave". I read once why they have it but I don't remember now. Trust me when I say, it is even weirder in person than the picture shows.
The sun was draining both of us so we tried to get some lunch/dinner from our hotel restaurant. We sat there for at least 15 minutes and no one talked to us so we went to another little restaurant. I got Thai fried chicken and Lacey got chicken satay (skewers). Of course they messed up the order and Lacey didn't get her food for at least 45 minutes. All the staff at our hotel is very nice but service everywhere is slow and disorganized. It's just kind of the way things go here.
Our hotel has 2 pools (fancy, I know). One of the pools is by the beach and the other is in the very back of the resort (by our room). The pool in back is almost never busy but the view is still really great. One thing I've never mentioned, the walk from our room to the beach is probably around 7 minutes but it felt like an eternity after 40 trips haha.
We went back to the room so Lacey could rest more. I watched more Star Trek. Eventually, I went down to the beach quick and watched the sunset by myself for a bit. I didn't really enjoy it even though it was pretty because I knew Lacey was sitting in the room by herself. I wish I wouldn't have gone.
Later, I knew I needed to eat a little bit more so we walked through a downpour with umbrellas and I got some snacks to eat for dinner. That was basically the day.

I'm a pretty spot on Type A personality. I like things being organized (by color first and purpose second jkkkk). I take way too much joy out of making lists and then crossing things off lists. When things don't go according to plan, I'm able to adapt but it takes me longer than others to adjust my expectations. What I'm trying to say is that our stay in Railay was pretty tough for me.
I spent the majority of our first day in Railay Beach alternating between feeling like I was going to puke and being too weak to walk around (see last blog post). I spent the second day on Railay feeling helpless and terrible while Lacey dealt with a really, really bad cold. My expectations of this place I had been thinking about for so long just didn't match up with the reality of us being there sick and that's tough to work through.
I wasn't as supportive of Lacey while she was sick as she was of me the day before. As I said, adjusting my expectations is hard for me and something I need to work on. We're good now but I was kind of an ass. Good thing Lacey is always awesome to balance us out. This turned into kind of an introspective post so sorry about that.
I do believe that just about everything happens for a reason and the low points of this day would lead to some really high points on the next day so look out for positivity tomorrow.
